Year 4 Semester 2:
Our athletics unit is a good opportunity for students to learn about fitness, goal setting and technique. Students discover how to pace themselves in distance events and activities, and how to set realistic goals to aim towards throughout the term. In field events students are instructed on how to use their whole body to generate force for events such as shotput and turbojav.
In fourth term our Year 4s have played striking and fielding activities where they are given the freedom to umpire and score their own games. This is a great opportunity to learn about organisation, fairness, resilience and conflict resolution.
We have also [played modified handball which places an emphasis on using space and team work to maintain possession and attack the opponent’s goals.
Our Yr 4 students just love getting active. Take a look:
By playing small sided grid games everyone gets close to the action and gets plenty of the ball. All students work on attacking space in offence and closing space in defence. Skills are practiced in a variety of activities and there are opportunities to design their own ‘skill testers’. Modified games are explored where rules can be adapted to suit the level of abilities.
