Over two days of competition our aths team worked really hard and did their best against bigger schools and some very talented athletes. We were positioned 7th after day #1 (jumps, throws and 400m), and managed to keep that spot after the completion of day #2 (200m, sprints, leaderball and relays). We placed 3rd in the A.P.P.S. Shield (Average Points Per Student). The students were delighted with this result, as were the many parent supporters who cheered on our kids with spirit the entire competition.
I was very pleased with the effort at training leading up to the event. The hard work paid off as the kids made big improvements in just 2 weeks of practice. Especially in the baton relays – NO DROPPED BATONS!!!! Stand-out performances came from Sophie Eaton who tied for a Silver medal in the year 4 girls, and Alicia Herbert who tied for the Bronze medal for the year 6 girls.
Thank you to Mr Markandu and Mr Koh for helping at training and providing expert photography. Thanks also to Ms Knight and Ms Laity for helping on both days.
Special mention must go to our wonderful team captains – Alicia Herbert and Jeff Douce, along with the year 6 students who were a great help on both days and set an excellent example for all our students to follow.
There were many ‘magic moments’ over the two days that make us proud to be a part of the Queenies Family. One example was watching many of our athletes push through painful ailments and injuries – determined to still try their best despite the discomfort!
If you witnessed such a moment, please share it with us. We love to hear those good news stories.
